Pyongyang threat of a nuclear strike preventive

A few hours before a meeting of the Security Council of the UN should strengthen sanctions against Pyongyang after its third nuclear test, North Korea's threat of a "thermonuclear war" preventive, without specifying what would be the target.

"The war is not confined to the Korean peninsula," warns the Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the party, in an allusion to the country's ballistic arsenal, capable as it hit the U.S. mainland. "Because the United States is on the verge of a nuclear war, we will exercise our right to a preemptive nuclear attack against the headquarters of the aggressor, to protect our supreme interests," said the spokesman North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement quoted by KCNA.

The Security Council was to meet Thursday morning in New York to vote on a text proposed by Washington and Beijing imposing new sanctions on North Korea to prevent it from obtaining the technology necessary for the development of its nuclear and missile programs.
